Partly printed document signed ("G: o Washington"), as President, COUNTER-SIGNED BY THOMAS JEFFERSON AS SECRETARY OF STATE and by the Collector at the port of Salem, Massachusetts, issued 20 March 1794. 1 page, folio (13 x 15¾ in.), with official paper seal at center left, elaborately matted and double framed, with illustrated prints of Washington and Jefferson set against blue felt background (frame: 23½ x 37¼) . A THREE-LANGUAGE SHIP'S PAPER WITH TEXT IN FRENCH, ENGLISH AND DUTCH: "Be it known that leave and permission are hereby given to Osman Gage, master or commander of the Schooner called Two Friends of the burthen of 74 tons or thereabouts, lying at present in the Port of Beverly bound for Surinam and laden with fish, provisions, rye & lumber."
