(10 by 8in.), a trifle soiled, tipped at left edge to a stiffer paper sheet ; the two sketches, facing each other, are nearly the same: both are of three male heads, with the middle head being, undoubtedly, a self-portrait of Whistler. One of the sketches has been captioned and signed by Whistler (with his butterfly signature): "Three in one - and one in three And one of them has died for me!"; Autograph note signed (butterfly signature) to an unnamed recipient, n.d., n.d., 1 page, 16mo, in pencil, mounted on card , mentioning Mrs. Leveson Gower whose portrait he had painted -- PENNELL, E.R. & J.
