He set out to capture a sense of community and delighted in painting children; playing on streets, and in houses and churches, smiling, dancing and laughing. In this drawing in oil crayon, a young mother holds a baby, who clings to her shoulder. Both are laughing, their faces almost touching. Dating probably from the mid 1950's, Motherhood depicts a tender moment in the life of both mother and child. Peter Murray, September 2023
