William John Leech RHA ROI (1881-1968) The Convent Walk, Christchurch Oil on board, 42 x 52cm (16.25 x 20.5'') Signed. Inscribed with title on what would appear to be a Dawson Gallery Label verso. This is one of a number of works executed by Leech at Christchurch in the South of England. In the 1940's due to the war and a shortage of money Leech could no longer travel to France each year so he went to the South of England. This picture is thought to depict the River Stour at Christchurch as it flowed down to the sea at Harwich from the Gog Magog Hills. Two works painted nearby of Christchuch Priory were included in the 1996 ''William John Leech Exhibition'' at the National Gallery of Ireland in 1996.
