Lot of 3 items relative to major figures involved in the Arts & Crafts movement, including William Morris ALS, plus Elbert Hubbard TLS accompanied by his book. Includes: Morris, William (1834-1896). English textile designer, poet, novelist, translator, and socialist activist. ALS, 3 p., "The Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings." August 14, 1877. Addressed to "sir." Morris apologizes to the man for a member of the society who failed to mention the recipients name is a paper, but reminds him that the society is not responsible for the paper. Morris was a major contributor to the revival of traditional British textile arts and methods of production. His literary contributions helped to establish the modern fantasy genre. In 1877 he founded the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings to campaign against the damage caused by architectural restoration. Hubbard, Elbert (1856-1915). American writer, publisher, artist, and philosopher. TLS, 1 p., "The Roycrofters Deluxe Books and Things, East Aurora, New York." April 1, 1907. Addressed to Maud Madison in New York, New York. Hubbard writes, Your kind letter received, asking for mottoes I have therefore made up a little package this day and send them along without charge, of course. Please accept them with my love and best wishes. So here is a hand-grasp over the miles and I am ever, Your sincere, [signed]. Accompanied by a paper bound copy of A Message to Garcia, Hubbard's best-selling inspirational essay which bemoans the difficulties of finding decent, self-sufficient workers. Hubbard is known best as the founder of the Roycroft artisan community in East Aurora, New York. The Roycrofters produced handsome, if sometimes eccentric, books printed on handmade paper, and operated a fine bindery, a furniture shop, and shops producing modeled leather and hammered copper goods. They were an influential exponent of the Arts and Crafts Movement and a leading producer of Mission Style products. Among Hubbard's many publications were the fourteen-volume work Little Journeys to the Homes of the Great and the short publication A Message to Garcia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elbert_Hubbard). Condition: Typical folds on both letters, some staining of the Morris letter on the right fold. The paper bound book has some brittle edges towards the top right margin.
