With up-turned snout, impressed nostrils, incised mouth and eyes and applied small ears, one missing, decorated with ochre slip and details in black with three lines of dots along the forehead and the features picked out in black, 3¾in. (9.6cm.), some wear; a Tarentine fragmentary terracotta griffin appliqué, flat-backed and enlivened with white slip and some traces of gilding, the griffin in motion with right fore-leg raised and back legs out-stretched behind, with finely moulded details of the wing feathers, set on an integral flat groundline, pierced through the shoulder, Late 4th Century B.C., 3½in. (9cm.) long, parts missing, front leg repaired; and a Corinthian style terracotta aryballos, with added decoration, probably later, in umber and crimson with a band of griffins and lions and a band of hounds below, geometric patterns on the handle, rim and shoulder, 3½in.
