Lot includes wooden stereoview case, two viewers, and 70 assorted stereoviews. Case is 16 x 14.5 x 6 in. high, lined with red velvet, with 5 partitioned areas for views and viewers. Viewers are both Keystone Model 40 Eye Comfort stereoscopes. Stereoviews include several of Niagara Falls and other Eastern U.S. scenery, including 13 by E. & H.T Anthony, plus views of Europe, specifically Paris. Notable are a view of Old Abe, the Live Wisconsin War Eagle, at the Philadelphia Centennial Exposition in 1876, and a nice view by Wilson and Davis of Bridgeport of a father two children posed with their pets, the young boy wearing a military-style outfit. PLUS Two Points of View; The History of the Parlor Stereoscope, by Harold F. Jenkins (Uniontown, PA: E.G. Warman Publishing Inc., 1973). Provenance: William Gladstone Collection of Early Photography & African Americana Condition: Viewers with general wear and some oxidation to metal. Some views significantly soiled and/or stained, with worn corners and edges.
