WWII Logbooks. A group of seven to Group Captain R.U. Paget de Burgh, OBE, Royal Air Force, The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, 2nd type, Military Division Officer’s (O.B.E.) breast Badge, 1939-1945 Star, Air Crew Europe Star, Africa Star, Defence and War Medals, General Service 1918-62, G.VI.R., one clasp, Malaya (Flt.Lt. De. Burgh. R.A.F.), good very fine, last a later issue with lightly engraved san-serif capitals, with four logbooks kept by the recipient. Logbook 1 - commences, 20.10.1941, training and exercises (Tiger Moth), 9.12.1941 -19.3.1942, training and exercises (Harvard), signed off by the Chief Flying Instructor, No. 20 Squadron 23.3.1942, recommences 2.2.1943 with Unit 7 A.F.U. flying Anson, Master II, with service in North Africa, 18.3.1943 service with 58 O.T.U. flying Masters and Spitfires, training and exercises including Rhubarb and Section Attacks, 30.10.1943, service with 131 Squadron over France (Spitfires), 2 - 29 January , 5 Operations, Convoy Patrol, 11G Gp Ramrod ‘Support to Bombers on not all target in Pas de Calais area, Huns about’, series of further operations including Operation Market ‘Cover to Dakotas and Liberators over Holland dropping supplies and Paratroops’, 21.11.1944 transferred to 118 Squadron RAF Manston (Spitfire), last entry 8.5.1946. Logbook 2 - commences 13.5.1946, transferred to 3 Squadron 3.6.1946 (Harvards and Spitfires), last entry 31.3.1949, mostly flying in the UK, various exercises and training. Logbook 3 - commences 23.2.1953 (Vampire and Meteor), transferred to No.16 Squadron, 9.3.1958 arrived in Changi ‘Bad trip, take off and the landing!’, last entry 20.12.1962. Logbook 4 - commences 1.11.1962, last entry 1977, with various copied research and original black and white group photographs of the recipient. Group Captain Richard Ulich Paget de Burgh, was born in 1921, joined the Royal Air Force in 1941 as AC2 (118569), he was accepted for aircrew eventually training to become a pilot. He was commissioned in 1942 and served with the General Duties Branch throughout WWII. During his service in the war he flew on 22 operations including Operation Ramrod and Market Garden (Battle of Arnhem 17-24 September 1944), later service saw him in Malaysia, various promotions including Wing Commander in 1957, he was also appointed an OBE in 1960 and transferred to the Administrative Branch, he retired from service in 1975.
