Y A GEORGE IV ROSEWOOD, SIMULATED ROSEWOOD, PARCEL GILT AND GILT METAL MOUNTED SIDE CABINET CIRCA 1825 The drawers with inset Sevres-style porcelain panels 162cm high, 182cm wide, 41cm deep In France from the 1780s marchand-mercier Dominique Daguerre was instrumental in Sevres plaques being set in French furniture. George IV put together a large collection of such pieces which inevitably set the fashion for English cabinet makers to make pieces, such as this lot, in the French style embellished with Sevres style plaques. Condition Report: Marks, knocks, scratches and abrasions commensurate with age and use. Some old splits and chips. Some wear and knocks to gilt metal elements All mirrors with the expected depletion, grey spots and sparkle Parcel-gilt elements with the expected chips and loses Porcelain panels with the expected scratches, one of the panels to the central drawer with chip of loss to surface (see images) Keys present and operate locks to all doors Later blocks and brackets added to back of superstructure Cararra marble top cracked through the centre and is in two pieces Please refer to additional images for visual reference to condition.
