Y A REGENCY MAHOGANY AND EBONY INLAID TRIPLE PEDESTAL DINING TABLE IN THE MANNER OF MACK, WILLIAMS & GIBTON, DUBLIN, CIRCA 1820 With four additional leaf extensions 75cm high, 146cm wide, 419cm long (extended) Provenance: From the Private Collection of a titled family See The Knight of Glin and James Peill, Irish Furniture, Yale University, 2007: 'The great Dublin firm of John Mack, Zachariah Williams, William Gibton, known as Mack, Williams & Gibton, was one of the most successful of the 1820s and 1830s. They were responsible for furnishing many of the new country houses being built or rebuilt in Ireland, such as Borris House, Co. Carlo and Lissadell, Co. Sligo. The majority of their work reflects contemporary English taste and the firm is recognised for the superb timbers employed and their high quality of workmanship which is often compared to Gillows of Lancaster and London. The present table shares related features including the reeded columns and the four hipped legs to each pedestal to examples of Mack, Williams & Gibton pedestal tables. Condition Report: SALEROOM NOTICE This triple pillar table is circa 1820 and later, the top is later incorporating some period and later elements. There are scratches, marks, knocks, cracks and abrasions consistent with age and use. There are losses, observations and restorations including: the later constructed top with shellac type finish, some bowing, losses to the ebony stringing with some filler to this area and to cracks elsewhere, some with filler; various fittings from previous methods of holding leaves including brass fittings, now with hinged supports; there is some evidence of worm; shadows of dowels to the cylindrical area of the supports by the leg joints; the cappings and casters of pleasing quality.
