Gaudefroy, ancien libraire de Paris . Brussels: Aug. Wahlen & Comp e., 1819-20. 2 volumes, 8 o (213 x 128 mm). Original plain wrappers, uncut and unopened (spines perished, but otherwise very fine). The sale catalogue of the superb library of the only woman book collector who owned a complete copy of a Gutenberg Bible (as well as the 1462 Bible and the 1463 Bull). Comtesse d'Yve who, according to Brunet, died in 1814, was unmarried adn therefore called "Mlle la Comtesse" in the catalogue. Her Gutenberg and 1462 Bibles, both on paper and in contemporary bindings, lots 6 & 7 disappeared according to De Ricci (1911, nos. 50 & 94), although Folter, No. 17 states that the 42-line Bible was sold to Payne "probably for John Fuller, who around 1830 presented it to Eton College." Her copy of the Pius II, Bulla Cruciata contra Turcoas of 1463 (lot 555 in her sale) is now in The Hague. The date of the beginning of each sale was corrected in contemporary manuscript in this copy from 9 August 1819 to 4 October (vol. I), and 9 October 1820 to 9 November (vol. II, and with a price increase). Blogie, I, col. 64 & 65; G. Brunet, col. 601 (mentioning the strength in the collection of books on the history of the Netherlands and early French books). (2)
