Für die Yoruba haben Zwillinge eine große Bedeutung und gar einen eigenen Gott, welchen sie «Ere Ibeji» nennen. Wird die gemeinsame Seele der Zwillinge durch den Tod eines der beiden Geschwister getrennt, so fertigen sie eine Ibeji Figur an, um die Seele des überlebenden Zwillings wieder zu vervollständigen.

For the Yoruba, twins have a particular meaning and even a special god, called «Ere Ibeji». If the common soul of the twins gets separated due to the death of one sibling, they create an Ibeji figure to complete the soul of the surviving twin.
