Leonardo da Vinci (15. April 1452 - 2. Mai 1519) war ein italienischer Künstler, Wissenschaftler, Ingenieur, Erfinder und Philosoph. Er gilt als einer der größten Künstler, die je gelebt haben. Seine kreativen und wissenschaftlichen Errungenschaften haben das menschliche Verständnis von Kunst und Wissenschaft maßgeblich beeinflusst. Leben Leonardo da Vinci wurde am 15. April 1452 in der toskanischen Stadt Vinci geboren. Sein Vater war der Notar Ser Piero da Vinci und seine Mutter Caterina, eine Bäuerin. Er hatte mehrere Geschwister, darunter zwei Halbgeschwister, die er bei seinem Vater zurückließ, als er 1467 nach Florenz zog. In Florenz lernte Leonardo die Malerei bei dem Künstler Andrea del Verrocchio. Unter Verrocchio's Anleitung wuchs Leonardos Interesse an der Malerei und Skulptur und er entwickelte sich zu einem der produktivsten und talentiertesten Künstler des 15. Jahrhunderts. Zu seinen bekanntesten Werken zählen „Das Abendmahl“ (1495-1498), „Die Mona Lisa“ (1503-1506), „Die Jungfrau von Orléans“ (1505-1507) und „Das Letzte Abendmahl“ (1513-1517). Leonardo da Vinci war auch ein begabter Ingenieur und Erfinder. Er entwickelte mehrere Erfindungen, darunter eine Flugmaschine, ein automatisches Schloss, ein U-Boot und ein Teleskop. Sein Wissen über Anatomie, Geometrie und Mechanik war unübertroffen und er schrieb mehrere Bücher über seine Forschungen. Leonardo da Vinci starb am 2. Mai 1519 in Amboise, Frankreich. Sein Werk hat die Welt für immer verändert und wird auch heute noch bewundert und geschätzt. Sein Name wird immer mit Genialität und Schöpfungskraft in Verbindung gebracht.
