Beschreibung:

Two Civil War New York Regiment Letters Relating to the Battles of Fair Oaks and Seven Pines, Christopher Connolly, Annapolis, 22 June 1862, ten-page autograph letter written while recovering in a hospital, he gives an account of the heavy rains the night before the battle and the haste to prepare for engagement as Casey's division was pushed back, he continues to describe how his group was outflanked and forced to find cover in the woods until he was shot in a volley and a "numbness ran through my arm then up in my head," he concludes by saying he left the field wounded and was brought by wagon to the railroad, 7 1/2 x 4 1/2 in. Franklin D. Sizer, Richmond, 11 June 1862, four-page autograph letter, a member of Casey's division, he begins the letter speculating how the division might be split up, he goes on to describe the overwhelming odds they faced and General McClellan's dissatisfaction, and ends with an interesting comment stating how a day or two after the battle he returned to the battlefield to scavenge for supplies, 10 1/2 x 8 1/2 in.
