18 TIFFANY STUDIOS Rare Favrile pottery vase with wisteria seed pods, Moss Green glaze, New York, 1904-19; Incised LCT; 8 3/4" x 3"; Provenance: Lillian Nassau, New York, 1967; Collection of Martin Eidelberg, New York; Published: Martin Eidelberg, ed., From Our Native Clay, 1987, p. 81 no. 144; Martin Eidelberg, Tiffany Favrile Pottery and the Quest of Beauty, New York, Lillian Nassau, 2010, p. 46 no. 73; Exhibited: Christie's New York, From Our Native Clay: Art Pottery from the Collections of the American Ceramic Arts Society, July 10 - August 28, 1987; Literature: Alice C. Frelinghuysen, Louis Comfort Tiffany and Laurelton Hall, New York, 2006, p. 132 (for three examples of the model in "Old Ivory" glaze in the Charles Hosmer Museum of American Art); This design combines two of Tiffany’s chief inspirations: Oriental art, as seen in the double gourd shape, and nature, witnessed in the selection of the pendant wisteria seed pods. Excellent condition.
