A landmark machine in the development of the motorcycle in Britain, Triumph’s Model P debuted at the 1924 Motor Cycle Show. A no-frills sidevalve-engined model, the newcomer was priced at £42 17s 6d, at which level it undercut every other 500cc machine then on sale in the UK. Production was soon running at an astonishing 1,000 machines per week, the Model P’s outstanding success undoubtedly hastening the demise of many a minor manufacturer. Production continued until the decade’s end, by which time the Model P had spawned a plethora of derivatives - Models N, Q and QA among them - and lost penny-pinching features such as guide-less valves and the bicycle-type front brake. This superbly presented Triumph Model N underwent total restoration in 2000 when all paintwork was refinished, plated parts re-nickelled, the saddle re-covered and the engine rebuilt. New chains and tyres/tubes were fitted at the same time and the magneto professionally reconditioned. We are advised that since completion the machine has been used only for a couple of local club runs, covering fewer than 500 miles, and has not been ridden for the past two years because of its owner’s ill health. Representing an exciting opportunity to acquire a capable ‘Banbury’ bike, it is offered with Swansea V5 registration document.
