1930 Packard 733 RS Coupé Lot Number118 RegistrationBF 8602 Chassis Number292956 Engine Number293269 Odometer reading47,195 miles Estimate£44,000 - £50,000 Print details Send this to a friend 5 more images This car can be viewed in person from 14th to 18th July 2020 at our the auction site, Windsorview Lakes, Datchet, SL3 9HY Introduced in 1924 models, the Packard straight-eight engine marked the beginning of a new era for both its esteemed manufacturer and the American prestige automobile. Led by the legendary Col. Jesse Vincent, Packard engineers had created a powerful, durable and nearly vibration-free inline eight. Combining this superb engine with the styling verve and elegance that set the marque apart in the later 1920s, the Packard Eight fairly defined the attributes of the cars. For 1929, a new version of the Packard inline eight engine powered the automaker’s Series 626 and 633 models. This 320cid, 90hp, ‘Standard Eight’ engine was continued in corresponding 1930 Series 726 and 733 lines, with a new Detroit Lubricator carburettor replacing the former Packard design. Also new for 1930 was a dual-belt water pump, accommodated by a one-inch increase in wheelbase and bonnet length. A four-speed manual transmission, incorporating a special extra-low gear useful for deep mud or snow, was standard. A convenient one-shot Bijur chassis lubrication system was also included. This delightful rumble seat coupé is fitted with the original 5.4 litre engine mated to a four speed gearbox. It starts on the button and runs beautifully offering a rather effortless and lazy drive. This car was subject to a restoration in Canada some 35 years ago and a testament to the quality of the restoration is how well she still presents today. The two-tone paintwork is in good order and correct for the period as is the velour interior trim. Seating for two passengers is provided inside, and two more can ride in the standard rumble seat. With ample chromework and particularly graceful lines, this Packard is aesthetically a great looking vehicle. The vendor is a knowledgeable classic car enthusiast who has enjoyed owning this coupé immensely over the last three years attending various rallies and taking her to Holland a number of times. Some great period features come with this Packard including a trunk for the rear carrier and a wooden set of golf clubs in a canvas bag, even the original Klaxon horn works well. The health and safety of both our customers and team remains the utmost priority, we are therefore operating to Government guidelines throughout viewing and auction day.
