One of the very first China Relief benefits in America, five months before Pearl Harbor, and five months after the China aid umbrella organization was formed. Very rare, WorldCat shows no institutional holding. United China Relief had just been formed in March 1941 by eight separate American organizations which were providing medical and social aid to China in its war with Japan when this benefit was organized around the traditional annual Moon Festival celebration in Los Angeles Chinatown. Officially sponsored by the city government, the principal events three nighttime parades that wound their way from “old” to “new” Chinatown in downtown Los Angeles. What made that year’s event special was the outpouring of support from Hollywood celebrities, from Anna May Wong, who was Mistress of Ceremonies, to Barbara Stanwyck , Dick Powell, Judy Garland, Raymond Massey, William Holden, Laurel and Hardy, Maureen O’Sullivan, Betty Grable , Bob Hope, Edward G. Robinson, Johnny Weismuller , Robert Young and Red Skelton. We have been unable to locate another copy of the booklet held by any institution. Lot Amendments Condition: Very good. Item number: 247519
