1956 TRIUMPH TR2 SPORTS TWO SEATER Registration No. RRM 593 Chassis No. To be announced Engine No. To be announced Red with black interior Right hand drive The TR2 was the first in a long line of the Triumph TR range. It was designed as a small sports car that could be sold at a low price. The low price was achieved by using as many standard parts from other more mundane models as possible, assembling them as a two seater, adding special tuning and then an all-new body. This car is one of the later "short door" models. At first the TR2 had doors that ran to the bottom of the body, but they were shortened to make kerb-side parking more convenient and also to stiffen the body. It has been with its present owner for almost twenty years and before he bought it there had been an outer-body restoration including a respray to the present "signal red" and aluminium front wings were added. The car was put into dry storage in 1977 since when it has not been touched apart from general tuning and starting every so often. Storage has caused the bodywork to suffer a little, but more work is required in the engine bay and interior trim which never received the same treatment as the outside. Mechanically the car ran well prior to storage with replacement parts including steering idler, front suspension bushes and four new Dunlop tyres. The car has travelled fewer than 50 miles since this work was carried out! In 1993 the overdrive was stripped and reassembled by a specialist who replaced any worn componants. The gearbox will need re-fitting to the car. The following items are missing: battery, black carpet, lower part of the exhaust system, the correct type horn push and correct type P700 Lucas headlamps. The bonnet needs some attention and then needs to be attached to the body. Like many TR2s, the front brakes have been updated with later discs, but more unusually the rear lever arm shock absorbers have been replaced with telescopic units.
