1958 JAGUAR XK150 DROP HEAD COUPE Chassis No. S 837636 Engine No. V5125 Dove grey with red leather interior Engine: six cylinder, double overhead camshaft, 3,442cc, 190bhp at 5,600rpm; Gearbox: four speed; Brakes: servo assisted four wheel disc; Suspension: front, independent, rear, live axle with semi-elliptic leaf springs. Left hand drive. The XK series (with the 150 as the final evolution) came about almost by accident. The 120 was only to have been a limited production run of 200 cars to publicize the new XK engine, designed for saloons. After the 1948 launch, however, the response was so strong that bodywork dies were prepared and twelve thousand XK120's were subsequently sold. The XK 140 followed in 1954, the 150 in 1957. The 150 had various styling developments over the 140 including a wrap- around windscreen and a new "hip line." A slightly wider body and slimmer doors provided considerably more interior room, but most importantly, the 150 had Dunlop disc brakes which hugely improved stopping ability. The example offered here has covered just over 20,000 miles from new. The first owner of this remarkably original vehicle, Mr. Harold W. Miller of Buffalo, New York, used his beloved XK150 only on beautiful summer days--otherwise it remained in his climate-controlled garage. Mr. Miller sold the car in 1988 and it passed through an intermediary's hands for about one week before the current owner was able to acquire it for his current collection of fine automobiles. The only items that the owner deemed necessary to change (for comfort and safety purposes) were a new top, chrome wire wheels and tires. These original items are available with the car. This is most original XK150 Christie's has ever had the pleasure of offering.
