Among all Ferrari sport cars, the ones powered by the legendary 250 V12 Colombo engine are the most sought after. This engine was so successful in so many competitions that one can say it is actually the foundation of the worldwide reputation of the marque. The Ferrari 250 Colombo dynasty includes some of the most famous cars ever made: 250 Testa Rossa, 250 GTO, 250 SWB, Spyder California, 250 GT Berlinetta "Tour de France", and 250 P (Le Mans 1963 winner) among a few others. The 250GT Coupé Pinin Farina belongs to this legendary breed: with its 3 litre V12 engine and its sleek, timeless Pinin Farina style, this Gran Turismo was one of the most desirable cars of its time: it reached a record breaking – for the period – figure of 351 examples sold, due to the unique combination of the most successful competition engine with one of the very best Carrozzeria’s talent. Specialists estimate that less than a hundred 250GT Pinin Farina coupés are still in existence today. The last examples – Series II – are equipped with four disc brakes, with the latest version of the engine (similar in many aspects to the competition Testa Rossa V12) and over-drive. The car for sale, a 1959 Series II coupé, was restored a few years ago by the famous Dutch Ferrari specialist Piet Roeloefs. The client went bankrupt in the middle of the restoration, so Piet Reolofs completed the car meticulously with intention to keep it for himself. It was later sold to a Ferrari Club secretary, and recently came to France where it was maintained by a specialised Ferrari dealer. The polished "blu scuro" (navy blue) paintwork is immaculate and period correct, as well as the interior, finished in tan leather, with red carpets. The engine and all the mechanical parts are in concours condition, but not over-restored, with as a result a spectacular driving experience and an authentic car throughout. This is a good opportunity to acquire one of the most famous series of cars made by Ferrari, since all other 250 Colombo powered two-seater Ferrari models are now much more expensive, if not totally unaffordable like the 250 GTO. The car is French registered.
