Description The enlargement of its C-Series six-cylinder engine to 2,912cc, and the adoption of Girling front disc brakes, differentiated the new-for-1959 Austin-Healey 3000 from the preceding 100/6. In 3000 form the rugged Austin six delivered 124bhp at 4,600rpm, good enough for a top speed (in overdrive) of 114mph. Otherwise, the car remained much as the 100/6, though the more-powerful disc brakes were a welcome improvement. The Austin Healey 3000 MK II was introduced in 1961. The 3000 MK II came with three SU HS4 carburettors and an improved camshaft, designated the BT7 MK II (4 seater version) and BN7 MK II (2 seater version). However upon the introduction of the BJ7 (2+2 seats) model in January 1962, the number of carburettors was reduced to two, (SU type HS6) due to the problems with balancing three carburettors. Externally, the main changes introduced with the BJ7 were a vertical barred front grille, wind up windows rather than side screens, an improved hood and a wrap around windscreen. The BJ7 was discontinued in October 1963 with the introduction of the 3000 MK III. The Mk II A is becoming sought after in Healey circles, featuring the more traditional dashboard, but with added performance granted by the larger 2” SU carburettors as fitted to the Mk III 3000. This fantastic 3000 Mark II A has recently enjoyed a huge amount of restoration work with leading Healey restorers Orchard Restorations, the engine having covered a mere 550 miles since completion. According to our vendor, a Healey expert, the car drives as well as it looks, and really is one of the best we have seen in recent times.
