There's nothing quite like an Old Skool Ford that has not been subjected to flared arches, modern engines and especially one that is a genuine Mk. I Cortina GT two door in Lotus Cortina colours that is offered today. This Cortina GT is testament to the quality of a restoration that was carried out some years ago. Today the GT is still resplendent in its original colour of Ermine white with the Lotus Cortina green flash having been added later. Take a walk around this example and you have to agree how very straight it is with clean sharp lines and excellent panel gaps. The Lotus Cortina steel wheels compliment the overall look and are period. Inspection of the engine bay will also reveal that the quality continues especially with the excellent suspension turret tops, a well known weak point on the Cortina model. The chassis plate shows that this Cortina was originally supplied as a right hand drive, 1498 GT with remote gear change, standard axle and black trim. During the restoration, the original engine was removed and a 1300 cc highly tuned unit fitted, however; today the engine block casting number shows the numerals 2731 which denotes that a late Mk. II Cortina 1500 block has been added. A 1500 pre-crossflow head sits on top with fuel being supplied through the twin 40 Weber DCOE carburettors and cooling provided by the Lotus big core radiator. An article in Retro Ford on this GT records that the drive is provided via a 1500 GT gearbox with 2000E gears to an Escort RS 2000 3.51:1 differential. On the inside the interior looks very smart with the original trim all in good order with rear seat belts also being fitted. The dashboard sports the GT auxiliary instruments, rev counter, odometer, original radio and a Mota-Lita steering wheel enables the driver to 'hang on'. A large history file details parts supplied over many years. A hand written note book is most interesting as it records works carried out in the 1980s. In addition there are several old MoT test certificates, invoices, an Owner's Handbook and a Ford schedule of maximum repair costs; if only they were applicable today. A UK V5 registration document and a MoT test certificate valid until May 2015 also reside within. This is an opportunity to acquire a very smart Mk. I Cortina GT that certainly evokes the GT set of the 1960s and especially at a very tempting estimate.
