Jaguar launched the stylish, compact and exceedingly quick Mark II saloon at the London Motor Show in October 1959. Immediately distinguishable by its slimmer windscreen pillars and deeper side windows, the new model offered enhanced performance and improved handling with better roll resistance and stability. Top of the range model was the 3.8 litre, twin overhead camshaft, six-cylinder-engined car which had a top speed of 125mph in overdrive top gear. The commercial success of this new model is legendary and today the 3.8 litre Mark II is the most coveted of all models. Equally legendary are the restorations of these cars carried out by Vicarage Classic Car Co. Ltd. of Bridgnorth. Vicarage Jaguars took original factory cars, stripping them to their bare components, removing all areas of corrosion, stripping the coachwork to bare metal and coating the body shell with Rustoleum cold galvanising compound. Such panels as needed replacing were automatically replaced by Vicarage and the engine bay and underside of the shell coated with stonechip. Chassis sections, insides of doors and sills were waxoil injected and a Vicarage mechanical restoration would include a total nut and bolt strip-down and rebuild to ‘as new’ condition. All perishable items would be replaced with new items as a matter of course. Chromium parts would be either replaced or re-chromed, stainless steel exhausts were standard, additional sound deadening was fitted and upholstery replaced to the owner’s specification. This car, restored by Vicarage in 1986, is finished in Bianca white livery with dark blue Connolly hide interior and optional extras fitted at the time included Pioneer four speaker stereo radio cassette, Daimler Van den Plas front seats, burglar alarm, hazard warning lights and Vicarage cut-down type spats. Condition generally is described as ‘A1/good’. It is offered with a Vicarage specification sheet and copies of bills for the restoration, a current MoT certificate and, although the car is currently Irish registered, is expected to be UK registered by the time of the sale.
