The Ford Mustang is an American icon originally based on the Ford Falcon compact. The first production Mustang rolled off the assembly line in Dearborn, Michigan on 9th March, 1964 and was introduced to the public at the New York World's Fair on 17th April 1964. It was then, and remains to be, one of the most successful product launches in automotive history. The Mustang sold over one million units in its first 18 months on the market and its legend lives on with revised models still in production today- after 50 years. With each revision, the Mustang saw an increase in overall dimensions as well as in engine power. By 1969, the muscle car race was on and Ford offered a 351 or 428 Cobra Jet and other performance engines in most models, although these were often ordered with the Fastback and Mach One cars. The '69 Boss 302 and Shelby (available since 1965), were special Mustangs, offered with both high performance engines and race-breed suspensions. Offered here is a 1966 manufactured 'A' Code Mustang 'factory' GT Coupé, importantly, one that has not undergone restoration or been modified from the original specification. The engine was rebuilt in September 1981 and has covered less than 5,000 miles since. The carburettor (Autolite 4100) still has the original tag in place. The car has the original GT Rally Pack gauges, GT exhaust tips and driving lights, disc brakes and four-speed manual transmission. The door panels, armrests, seat covers and carpet have all been renewed to Warranty Plate Trim Code 26. The A/M radio, turn signals, courtesy lights and back up lights are all correct and in working order. The car was repainted a few years ago in Candy-Apple red and remains in good condition. This stunning Mustang has only had three owners in almost 50 years, with one of those keeping the car from 1966 until 2006. Supplied with the original owners' manual and title certificate, original Ford Owners card, the car is also accompanied by two sets of original keys, in addition to an outstanding history file, inclusive of invoices and handwritten logs of repairs, from 1967 through to 2006. This genuine factory GT Coupé is a splendid example, having recently been imported from Texas and comes with the required NOVA certificate to enable the car to be registered in the UK immediately. All import duties and VAT have been paid.
