1966 Ford Mustang Notchback Lot Number 137 Registration ABW 206D Chassis Number 6R07C171132 Engine Number Not known Odometer reading 7,831 miles Estimate £24,000 - £27,000 Result Sold - £26,320 Print details Send this to a friend 4 more images Think of a pure out-and-out American pony car, designed to bring out the youth in everyone, powering you and your girl west down Route 66 and you could well have a Mustang coupé in your mind. The best-selling Mustang variant of all time with just 249 short of half a million rolling off Ford's production lines. The first production Mustang rolled off the assembly line in Dearborn, Michigan on 9th March 1964 and was introduced to the public at the New York World's Fair on 17th April 1964. It was, and remains, one of the most successful product launches in automotive history. The Mustang sold over one million units in its first 18 months on the market and its legend lives on with revised models still in production today after 50 years. With each revision, the Mustang saw an increase in overall dimensions and in engine power. Now could be the time to ignite your youth again as the new owner of this cool blue example. This beautiful 1966 V8 Mustang was imported from Reno, Nevada as a dry-state standard Coupé. The present owner then set about converting it to a Shelby Trans Am Mustang recreation. The car was repainted in 2007 from turquoise to Ford Seafoam – which is a beautiful green/blue metallic. The car benefits from attention to detail throughout, which starts with the engine - a high-performance 347cu.in.(5.7 litres) stroker hydraulic roller with top-quality components. The ignition is a programmable digital system with rev limiter and bespoke road run map. Fuel is supplied from a custom Pro Alloy tank and Holley electric pump. A Quick fuel double pumper 750 SS carburettor complements this superb engine along with custom headers and entirely bespoke stainless steel side-exiting exhaust with electric cut-outs. 15" period correct KN Minilte staggered wheels (7" on front and 8" on rear) provide contact with the ground via a fully rebuilt, manual Ford 4speed top loader gearbox and buttery smooth Hurst Competition Shifter and linkage. The heavy and unreliable mechanical link clutch has been replaced by a Mcleod Hydraulic performance modern clutch conversion. This is all joined up by a new 9" Posi-loc differential with Moser 31 spline axles, housing and billet small Ford bearing housings. The brakes are rebuilt period Kelsey Hayes four pot discs with two and a half inch wide drums at the rear and much-improved with the addition of a power servo and adjustable brake bias balancer. Inside, you will find a six point bespoke roll-cage, Cobra racing seats, hydraulic handbrake, aluminium foot plates, hand-crafted aluminium panelling, switch box and a full array of Auto Meter gauges, including a wideband AFR. This is a superb and unique Mustang which has had a considerable amount of time and money spent on it to create an exciting high-performance classic road car, which is as at home on a track as it is on the open road ( a full specification of the car can be seen on file).
