* 4.4-liter V12 * 5-speed manual transmission * Factory air conditioning * Fully documented history * First US version built * Ideal long distance touring car By the mid-1960s, 50 percent of all Ferraris produced were being built with four seats, and following on from the success of its first such model, the 250 GTE of 1960, Ferrari introduced the 330 GT 2+2 in January 1964. The newcomer's steel tube chassis was 50mm longer in the wheelbase than that of its predecessor and featured independent front suspension and a live rear axle, while beneath the 330's more-spacious Pininfarina coachwork was a 300bhp, 4.0-liter V12 coupled to a four-speed overdrive gearbox. Its replacement, the 365 GT 2+2, was launched at the Paris Auto Show in October 1967. Sleekly styled in the manner of the limited edition 500 Superfast, the 365 GT 2+2 was the most refined Ferrari to date. Based on that of the contemporary 330GTC, the chassis was made up of Ferrari's familiar combination of oval and round steel tubing, and as well as featuring independent suspension all round (for the first time on a Ferrari 2+2) boasted Koni's hydro-pneumatic self-leveling system at the rear. Further refinements included mounting the engine and drive-train in rubber bushes to insulate the car's occupants from noise and vibration, and providing ZF power-assisted steering and air conditioning as standard equipment. Developing 320bhp in its 365 GT incarnation, the well-proven 4.4-liter V12 engine was coupled to a five-speed gearbox, while the car's blistering performance - top speed 150mph, 0-60mph in 7.0 seconds - was restrained by Girling ventilated discs all round. A total of 800 cars had been completed by the time production ceased in 1971. Endowed with that unusual combination of fine handling and a supple ride, the 365GT 2+2 was rated by Car magazine as 'the most civilized Ferrari yet.' With documented history from Marcel Massini, this very early example of Ferrari's 365 GT 2+2 is believed to have been the Paris Auto Show car for 1967 and was also the prototype US version. Chassis '10431' was delivered new to the Pinkerton family in New York (of Pinkerton Security fame) through US importer Luigi Chinetti, equipped with air conditioning, power brakes and power steering. Being a 1967 model, the car was built pre-emissions that became mandatory in 1968 and also has a number of European model features, including the electric quarter windows. The Ferrari has spent all its life in the US and in recent years has undergone considerable cosmetic and mechanical refurbishment to bring it to its present high standard. Harley Cluxton's GTC in Arizona performed a valve adjustment in early 2009, with new plugs and ignition wires, the distributor caps serviced and ignition rotors replaced. The brakes were checked over with new soft lines and seals fitted at the same time. Johannes Huwyler at Dino Motors subsequently re-cored the radiator, repaired the air conditioning condenser and fitted a new Ansa exhaust system, along with new sway bar mounts and bushings. The Koni shock absorbers were previously rebuilt and we are advised the self-leveling system works properly. The Navy Blue exterior paint presents well and is complemented by good chrome work and Borrani wire wheels fitted with correct Michelin XWX tires. The interior has been reupholstered in new ivory leather along with new carpet, headliner, door panels and rear parcel shelf and is nicely appointed, with a period Blaupunkt radio and correct wood-rim steering wheel with engraved spokes. The dashboard, wood and instruments were left original are in good shape, the trunk has been refurbished and contains the tool roll and jack in the correct bag. The Ferrari was invited to the prestigious Quail Motorsports Gathering in 2009 but is definitely not a trailer queen, the owner having driven the car over several thousand miles in this period to ensure it is a particularly well-sorted example. With its unique history, '10431' is a mos
