Laverda was a premium quality farm combine harvester firm founded in the 19th Century when part of the family began making motorcycles in 1948. Through the years they established a reputation in Italian and International endurance racing from local Giros to the Bol d'Or at Le Mans. Their street bikes reflected this heritage and were overbuilt, reliable and fast. In 1972 Laverda introduced a 1,000cc triple that was built in limited quantities. Early, pre-Jota models are collectable and very rare in the States. Our subject bike is number 580 of the production run; it represents the transition of the times with disc brakes at the front and a drum at the rear. Hard-to-find OEM equipment includes the large Bosch headlight lens, Voxbell horns and correct double-seamed exhausts. These aesthetically pleasing triples are both large and tall, but the double overhead cam engine with triple Dell'Orto carburetors and the 11-inch front Brembos (since cross drilled) make sure that acceleration and stopping power are the equal of any of their contemporaries. An aftermarket Witt ignition system improves both starting and performance. This 1000 3C offers a prospective purchaser the opportunity to own an original example of an Italian exotic that ranks among the rarest and fastest production motorcycles of its era. A six page listing of the work carried out and the parts used on this bike is available upon request.
