6.6 liter, GM power train. This black Trans Am, although not used in the feature film, was designed to replicate the Pontiac Trans Am from Smokey & the Bandit as a test car and personal stunt car by Barris. Smoky and the Bandit is a classic of ‘70s Cinema, and tells the story of a maverick race driver (Burt Reynolds) and his big-rig side kick (Jerry Reed), who take an $80,000 bet that they can transport a container load of Coors beer from Texarkana, Texas to Atlanta, Georgia in 28 hours (at the time it was illegal to ship the Coors brand east of Texas). Along the way, the bandits pick up a Smoky, in the person of quintessential redneck, sheriff Buford T. Justice (Jackie Gleason), and the rest of the film is one long car chase. The movie stunned critics when it received an Academy Award nomination for Best Editing (for the vehicular action), and also when it grossed an estimated $50,000,000, big money by ‘70s box office standards. The Trans Am is the most recognizable car from the film, with which this example is associated. Without Reserve
