The new models were technically striking in three ways. A monocoque chassis was used; all wheels were sprung independently and four wheel disc brakes now ensured stopping power of the sort that had come to be expected in a modern car. Under the bonnet, the V8 engine that had been introduced in the Silver Cloud series was employed. In February 1977, the Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow II was introduced. The most notable changes mechanically were to the rack and pinion steering and modifications to the front suspension which improved handling markedly. This outstanding Rolls-Royce was originally delivered to Guernsey and spent its first thirteen years on the island before coming back to the mainland permanently in July 1991. The service history reads as follows; 22-1-1980 St. Peter Port Garages, Guernsey at 951 miles 11-9-1984 Rolls-Royce, School Road at 1,608 miles. A new speedometer was fitted. 4-6-1985 Rolls-Royce, School Road at 489 miles 2-7-1987 St. Peter Port Garages, Guernsey at 1,005 miles 16-4-1991 St. Peters Port Garages, Guernsey at 1,261 8-6-1998 H.R. Owen, School Road at 1,750 miles 24-9-2015 Hanwells of London at 2,321 miles 26-8-2016 Hanwells of London at 2,591 miles From 1998 until 2015 the car was in storage in Cornwall, we have a letter confirming as such. When she was taken out of storage this Rolls-Royce was taken to Hanwells of London for a service and recommissioning. In addition to a 20,000 mile service being carried out the fuel system was overhauled with a new tank being fitted, a new fuel pump and a complete overhaul of the carburettors. The brake calipers were also overhauled and the brake hoses replaced. Four new tyres were fitted at the same time. With the odometer currently reading 2,674 miles plus the 1,608 miles on the previous odometer, this totals an astonishing 4,282 miles in 41 years, an average of 104 miles per annum. The condition of this Silver Shadow can only be described as exceptional, the Honey paintwork is in delightful condition and the beige leather trim unmarked and completely original. We are advised everything works on this Rolls-Royce and she glides along the road in a manner commensurate with such a low mileage example. Supplied with the original service books and a V5C registration document together with a current MoT test certificate valid until 5th February 2020; Silver Shadows have become highly desirable of late with the market place recognising what a timeless enjoyable classic car they are, driving a 4,282 mile Rolls-Royce is sure to put a smile on your face.
