"In short: these cars combine advanced engineering and safety specifications with traditional Rolls-Royce standards of craftsmanship. In the manner of their performance they are as revolutionary as the Silver Ghost was 59 years ago," announced Rolls-Royce on the launch of the Silver Shadow and Bentley T1. Introduced in 1965, Rolls-Royce's first unitary construction models continued to use the Silver Cloud II's well-tried 6.2-litre V8 until the need to maintain power while meeting US emissions targets forced its enlargement to 6,750cc in 1970. Notable developments prior to that had included the adoption of GM400 automatic transmission and air conditioning as standard. For 1973 the front suspension subframe was re-designed, enabling radial tyres to be fitted without compromising ride quality, and later that year 'impact-resistant' bumpers were standardised. Introduced in 1977, the revised Shadow II featured power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering and split-level air conditioning among many improvements. The vendor advises us that this Shadow II has covered only 57,000-or-so miles from new. The car is accompanied by substantial service history including numerous invoices; long-term careful maintenance being reflected in its condition, which is described as 'good' throughout with the exception of non-functioning cruise control. Finished in walnut metallic over silver sand with cream leather interior, the vehicle is offered with owner's instruction books, current MoT and Swansea V5.
