THE MERCEDES-BENZ 560SL
When Mercedes redesigned its famed SL in 1971, there was a lot/b of equity behind it – after all, when the incomparable 300SL Coupe and Roadster were built fewer than 20 years befo in 1988 re, they set the world on fire. The next-generation 230/250/280SL in 1963 brought Mercedes' sports car down to earth, replacing both the incredible 300SL and four-cylinder 190SL. For the next SL, Mercedes started with the chassis of the mid-size "W114/115" model and added the motors from the large "W116" S-Class. The result was a luxurious V8 Convertible that ended up being the longest passenger car series ever produced by Mercedes-Benz to date. Despite its age, the final iteration, the 560SL, remained a prized automotive status symbol and an iconic part of the brand's lineup.
THE MOTORCAR OFFERED
Completed at the Mercedes-Benz factory in September of 1988 as a 1989 model-year car, this exceptional 560SL was delivered new to the US, where it has resided in a sheltered California garage for the past two decades. Equipped with both soft and hard top, this 560SL was finished as it appears today in the classy DB904 Midnight Blue color over Parchment leather interior. According to the CARFAX report on file, the Mercedes-Benz received smog checks in California during the late 1990 and was then parked away in a Pasadena garage. Today the last CA registration sticker dates year 2000.
This fine 560SL presents in extraordinarily original condition with impeccable original finishes throughout, and just 28,749 miles are recorded on the odometer at the time of cataloging. The original factory DB904 Midnight Blue paint is exceptional, and really speaks to the high quality of these automobiles and careful custodianship of past owners. The original Parchment interior is equally beautifully preserved, with just very light signs of wear. The original Becker Grand Prix cassette player remains in the dash, and the wood and leather finishes show hardly any age. Original factory applied decals, markings and ID plates remain in-situ throughout the car, and the spare wheel retains the original paper advisory note attached as it's never been out. A fresh set of Michelin tires was recently fitted, and the original keys are still with the car. This fastidiously well-preserved, high-quality Mercedes-Benz is elegant and stylish in a way only a classic Mercedes-Benz SL can be.
