2 vol. in one as issued, first collected edition, comprising first printing sheets of The Raven and first edition, third printing sheets of Tales (with 3-line copyright and no printer's imprint), both with 'Library of Amreican Books' half-title 4pp. advertisements, light damp-stain affecting upper edge of first few ff., ink note and early 20th century bookplate on front endpapers, original cloth, rebacked preserving contemporary backstrip with some loss including to hinges and head of backstrip, later cloth chemise and morocco-backed cloth slip-case, [BAL 16146/7], 8vo, New York, 1845. *** The first combined edition of Poe's famous collection of poems (see lot ***) and his Tales, described as "the first important book of detective fiction, the cornerstone of cornerstones...includes for the first time in book form all three Dupin stories - The Murders in the Rue Morgue, The Mystery of Marie Roget, and The Purloined Letter. The Gold Bug is also included", Queen's Quorum I.
