Description “There are many things to like about the insanely powerful CL65 AMG – a car many will surely argue is wildly out of step with these environmentally sensitive times. However, nothing is more compelling than its ability to devour vast distances with such nonchalant ease. As a way to do this it is hugely convincing and, from behind the steering wheel at least, far more entertaining than any Airbus.” – Autocar, 2007 In 2007, 40 C216 CL 65 AMG units were sold as a 40th Anniversary Edition, to celebrate AMG’s founding 40 years earlier. Performance wise, the ‘40th Anniversary Edition’ was a custom CL 65 AMG. Changes to the car included a ‘ONE OUT OF 40’ badge near the Comand controller, special upholstery and roof-lining, and a special ‘AMG Alubeam’ paintfinish. Apart from the CL 65 AMG 40th Anniversary Edition, only a small selection of show cars got an Alubeam finish, a special paint designed to gleam like liquid metal. Mika Häkkinen was the 1998 and 1999 Formula One World Champion, driving for McLaren, and now works in driver management and brand ambassadorship for various companies, including Mercedes. Häkkinen announced his retirement from competitive motorsport in November 2007. He was quoted as saying that the decision “was not an easy one”, but added that “racing is still in my blood and this decision does not mean that this will prevent me from racing for pleasure”. The S-Class range of Mercedes models have been favoured by Formula One drivers since the 1970’s, and Häkkinen is no exception, having chosen to pilot this very top of the line CL65 upon his retirement. This fabulous UK-supplied example was first registered in April of 2008 by Mercedes Benz Greenoaks, and as one might imagine was fitted with every optional extra imaginable (a full list is available upon request). The Mercedes has been serviced regularly, with 8 Service Stamps recorded, and is offered with a Full Service History, the relevant book packs and key sets, and has been granted a recent UK MOT. Signed by Mika himself, and supplied with video footage of him with the car, this is a genuine continent-crushing uber GT car with exceptional provenance.
