To this day the F1 evokes emotion difficult to express on a page. Since then, McLaren has emerged itself as one of the frontrunners in the exotic and hypercar world. With a multitude of different models in their lineup, McLaren has designated several groups of vehicles to distinguish their brand. These include the GT Series, Legacy Series, Supercar Series and finally their pinnacle group of models known as the Ultimate Series. Within this Ultimate Series contains some of the most potent and exclusive cars to be released from McLaren. This includes the familiar names like the P1, Senna, Senna GTR, Speedtail and finally the latest iteration of their ultimate offering, the venerable Elva. The McLaren Elva depicts this ultimate driving emotion where the F1 had left off many years ago. McLaren had set out to build a vehicle so powerful, so lightweight and delivering a completely different driving experience than any of their other vehicles offered. To do this, a drastic approach would need to be taken to achieve status of giving a driver the driving experience from a whole new world. This drastic approach includes eliminating the entire roof, windows and windscreen. Couple that with copious amounts of lightweight carbon fiber body panels as well as the carbon chassis, a highly advanced aerodynamic body design and a superbly responsive 804 horsepower twin turbocharged V8 engine; this completes the recipe for an astounding experience in a road car. Performance from this lightweight and powerful machine comes with astounding numbers including an estimated 0-60 time of 2.8 seconds while 0-124mph is stated to take an astonishing 6.7 seconds. Top speed on this roadster is claimed to hit 203 mph. The Elva was the machine that McLaren developed to mimic what a modern day Can-Am racecar would be like today. Truly an amazing driving experience. The Elva is the lightest modern production road car that McLaren has ever produced. Although they have yet to announce its actual weight, the writing is on the wall considering the amount of high-tech, lightweight composite details used on this car. The Elva is equipped with a bespoke carbon fiber monocoque which is mated to a full carbon fiber body which is comprised from only three main panels. The front carbon fiber clamshell is stated to be only 1.2mm in thickness proving how minimalistic their approach was to achieving extreme lightness. Most of the interior is adorned by carbon fiber as well as the unique carbon fiber seats clad in a new synthetic 'Ultrafabric' material to help the occupants stay firmly gripped into the seats. To add to the carbon theme, 4-wheel carbon ceramic brakes are utilized and being connected to the road via lightweight forged wheels and soft compound rubber. The unique body was designed to be as slippery and smooth in the aerodynamic department while incorporating new technology to aid driving enjoyment. To aid the additional wind noise created in a cabin which lacks a windshield, McLaren developed a sophisticated system to help direct air and turbulence over the cabin. This new aerodynamic aid called Active Air Management System (AAMS) is a driver-controlled air foil which elevates out of the front end of the vehicle at certain speeds, blocks the air coming into the cabin, and therefore deflects this air and wind noise up and over the driver compartme
