A mid-20th century Burmese silver bowl, Rangoon circa 1950 Of circular form with a rounded base. The body with embossed decoration of Ramayana scenes. Depicting scenes from Rama and the Demon Tataka, such as Rama drawing his arrow to slay Tataka, Sita with Lakshmana asking Rama to catch the Golden dear for her, Maricha assuming the form of a golden deer. The upper section with a convex band chased with foliate scrolls, the lower most section with a band of stylised water cabbage leaves. The underside stamped 95% SILVER, BURMA, within a flat chased mandala. Diameter (approx) – 26 cm / 10.25 inches Height – 16.5 cm / 6.5 inches Weight – 1545 grams / 49.67 ozt
