One made from a French coin is engraved to “LT F H STRINGER D.S.C CONG R.A.F”, other examples for E J WILLIAMS RAF, ROBERT SCOTT WALFORD RAF, HENRY E WRIGHT 238042 and CAPT F T WOODS RAF C of E. Lieutenant Frederick H Stringer was serving with the Royal Naval Air Service when he was taken prisoner of war, being repatriated in December 1918. The award of the Distinguished Service Cross appears in “Awards to Officers” 17-4-18, rank at the time of the award was Observer Sub-Lt RNAS.
