H. HILZ, in Deutsche Bauzeitung (edition of 02/08/2004) assesses the importance of Wiebeking in the following words: "The wide-ranging professional practice of Carl Friedrich von Wiebeking - encompassing bridge, road and hydraulic engineering - was still typical for the end of the 18th century. At the same time, Wiebeking can be seen as one of the earliest representatives of modern engineering on account of his professional activity based on contemporary literature and his own research. His own practice reflects the gradual change in the building industry from an empirical to a scientific basis." SEE ILLUSTRATION PLATE L.
