A 15ct. gold & enamel medal Southern League Championship medal 1899-1900 (an historically important Tottenham Hotspur medal representing the first senior honour in the club's history), inscribed SOUTHERN FOOTBALL LEAGUE, CHAMPIONS, TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR, 1899-1900, J. MELIA Jimmy Melia was born at Darlington on 2nd April 1874. He developed as a player with Darlington St. Augustines and Darlington Town before joining Sheffield Wednesday in 1895 where he made 7 Football League appearances. Melia transferred to Tottenham Hotspur in May 1898 and was understudy to regular right-back Harry Erentz during his three years at Spurs. He made 12 appearances during the Southern League Championship winning season of 1899-1900, the club's first senior team honour. Having played in a total of 35 League & Cup games for Spurs, Melia transferred to Preston North End in July 1901 and finished his playing career the year after. James Melia died at Darlington during February 1905 aged 30. appendix Geoffrey W. Jones (Tottenham Hotspur Club Secretary 1967 to 1981) Lots 33 to 56 Geoffrey Jones took over as Club Secretary at Tottenham Hotspur in July 1967 at the age of 35. He had joined the club as assistant when Alan Leather departed in October 1966.
