A BIZEN OKAYAMA KATANA EDO PERIOD (CIRCA 1625), SIGNED BIZEN (NO) KUNI OKAYAMA (NO) JU AZUMA TAMON HYOE (NO) JO FUJIWARA MASANARI Configuration ( sugata ): with longitudinal ridge line ( shinogi-zukuri ), shallow peaked back ( iori-mune ) and medium point ( chu-kissaki ); length ( nagasa ): 2 shaku , 2 sun , 2.3 bu (67.6 cm.); curvature ( sori ): very shallow koshi-zori of 0.5 cm.; decrease in width of blade ( fumbari ): 0.8 cm. Forging pattern ( jihada ): indistinct due to partial polishing. Tempering pattern ( hamon ): indistinct due to partial polishing. Point ( boshi ): indistinct due to partial polishing. Tang ( nakago ). Shape ( keitai ): o-suriage (approximately 13 cm.), slender and with a thin, moist patina; file marks ( yasurime ): slanted ( katte-sagari ); end ( nakagojiri ): orikaeshi ; signature ( mei ) turned over ( orikaeshi-mei ): Bizen (no) Kuni Okayama (no) ju Azuma Tamon Hyoe (no) Jo Fujiwara Masanari . Uchigatana-koshirae comprising: a black lacquer saya ; black-wrapped tsuka with shakudo mitsu-jo-mon menuki of the Hiyashi family; odd fuchi-kashira ; iron sukashi tsuba pierced with radiating spokes, a chrysanthemum leaf and two birds, unsigned, 17th century; shakudo nanako kozuka and kogai each applied with a shakudo dragon, signed Goto Kyujo with kao --length of koshirae 94 cm.; length of tsuka 23.3 cm.; diameter of tsuba 7.3 cm.
