A builder's mirror back half model of the tanker S.S. 'Yarraville' with cut-away masts, derricks and deck details including anchor with 'D' chain, steam winch, bollards, deck rails, companionways, ventilators, hatches, walkways, superstructure with framed wheelhouse windows, searchlight, water tank, aft superstructure with funnel, engine room lights, aft double ship's wheel and three life boats in davits, finished in brown, red and black with gold plated fittings. Mahogany case with fluted corner pieces and back silvered mirror -- 29¾ x 132in. (75.5 x 338cm.) The tanker Yarraville was built by Lithgows Ltd. for the Standard Transportation Co. in 1928. Registered at 8,627 tons, she measured 460 feet in length with a 63 foot beam, and she was powered by triple-expansion engines to give her a cruising speed of 11 knots. On 21 June 1940, whilst in ballast and on passage from Bec d'Ambes to Casablanca, she was torpedoed and sunk off Gibraltar with the loss of five crewmen, her Captain being amongst the survivors.
