BY CHARLES LANCASTER, LONDON, SERIAL NO. 358, CIRCA 1830
A CASED 15-BORE DOUBLE-BARRELLED PERCUSSION SPORTING GUN BY CHARLES LANCASTER, LONDON, SERIAL NO. 358, CIRCA 1830 With rebrowned twist sighted barrels signed in full on the rib, engraved patent breeches each with pierced platinum plug and short platinum-inlaid line, engraved tang, border, scroll and game scene engraved locks each signed 'C. LANCASTER LONDON', figured walnut half-stock with chequered grip, engraved iron mounts, silver escutcheon and barrel-bolt escutcheons, and associated ramrod (barrels slightly shortened, some refinishing and discolouration throughout), London proof marks and barrelsmith's mark 'CL', in original fitted mahogany case lined with Russian leather with some accessories including a fine Bartram & Co leather shot-flask and a Patent leather-covered powder-flask, the lid with Chas. Lancaster trade label, the exterior (some marking) with brass flush-fitting carrying handle and circular escutcheon 28¾in. (73cm.) barrels
