A Cased Pair Of Rare 32-Bore Flintlock D.B. Travelling Pistols With Attachable Shoulder-Stock By D. Egg, London, Circa 1800Reconverted from percussion, with rebrowned twist barrels (one rear ramrod-pipe re-soldered, one forward pipe replaced) signed in gold along the rib and each with gold fore-sight, the breeches with two gold lines, border engraved tangs each decorated with foliage and with a starburst in the sighting groove, original lock-plates each with re-engraved border and signature, foliate engraved sliding safety-catch behind each cock, and curved tail with a line of beadwork and a trophy, figured half-stocks each with rounded butt cut with characteristic chequering and pommel shaped to accommodate the border engraved steel triangular 'skull-crusher', the latter decorated with foliage and a trophy of arms on each flat, the back of each butt with border engraved steel mount for the figured boot-shaped take-down shoulder-stock with cheek-piece, the tang along the top decorated en suite and engraved 'Egg's PATENT BUTT', the lower tang with sprung catch, a split-ring for suspension to one side, border engraved steel trigger-guards and rear ramrod-pipes each decorated en suite, the former in the French fashion, trigger-plates each with foliate finial, silver barrel-bolt escutcheons, and horn-tipped ramrods, one with iron worm (some wear and old rust patination): in contemporary expertly relined and refitted mahogany case with accessories including brass-mounted three-way powder-flask (old patination) covered in red leather, the interior of the lid with reproduction maker's label, the exterior with flush-fitting brass carrying handle, London proof marks 30 cm. barrels FootnotesProvenance The case sold in these Rooms, The Major David Back Collection, 23 July 2008, lot 192 Literature The case, W.
