Beschreibung:

A Chinese 'Jian' 'Hare's Fur' tea bowl, Southern Song Dynasty, the steep, conical sides with a subtly concave band just below the tapered rim, covered in a thick, opalescent chestnut-coloured glaze suffused with lustrous black streaks emanating upward in fine lines from the well and around the exterior, the glaze pooling in an uneven line issuing thick drops revealing the brown stoneware body, the base incised with the two-character phrase gongyu (imperial tribute), 12.4cm diameter Provenance: From the collection of the late Peter Maitland, former director of Malletts and then to the current owner. By repute Peter Maitland acquired the piece from the renowned Australian collector, Paul Hordern. 南宋 “供御”款建窑兔毫盏 拍品来源:英国著名古董商Malletts前主管Peter Maitland旧藏 For a very similar bowl, also with a Gongyu mark to the base, see R. Mowry, Hare's Fur, Tortoiseshell, and Partridge Feathers, Cambridge, Massachusetts, 1995, cat.no.76, where the author suggests that the bowl probably comes from the kilns at Shuiji, Jianyang county, Fujian province.
