Gerrish Date: 1736 Description: [10], xi, [1], 20, 104, [2], 254 pp. (12mo) 6½x3¾, period full smooth calf, raised bands, blind-tooled borders, morocco lettering pieces. First Edition. Noted by Howes as "our most scholarly colonial work." Sabin calls the work "an important work on the most interesting period of New England history. It was carefully compiled from a large number of authentic records and relations, mostly in the exact words of the respective authorities..." Complete with the 20-page subscribers list, a veritable who's who of influential New Englanders. A second volume was issued in 1755. Evans 4068; Howes P616; Sabin 65585. Lot Amendments Condition: Old rebacking and repairs to corners preserving original materials; endpapers remargined with Japanese tissue; text fairly browned and occasionally brittle, overall well-preserved and near very good.
