A collection of 10 2° albums, 7 of them containing letters, telegrams, sketches, cuttings, photographs and invitation cards relating principally to Lady Juliet Duff Cooper from the 1930s to the 60s, and 2 of them relating to the art journalist Simon Fleet. They include: i) CHURCHILL, Winston. A one page typed letter of 3 lines, laid down, from 28, Hyde Park Gate, 9 December 1955, 4°, to Lady Juliet Duff with autograph salutation ("My dear Juliet"), signed "Your old admirer, Winston", thanking her for her "beautiful present". "It was kind of you to mark it in this way. Eighty-one is an awful age" (slight creasing, very light spotting). ii) 3 telegrams from Winston Churchill to Lady Juliet Duff, one reading, "Thank you dear Juliet for the exquisite duckling which I shall keep as a mascotte [sic]. Winston," with beneath an autograph note by Lady Juliet Duff Cooper stating, "Winston's 70th birthday Nov 30th /44. (I sent him a Fabergé duckling carved in yellow stone.)" iii) NICHOLSON, William. A one-page autograph letter, laid down, from 152 King's Rd, to Lady Juliet Duff Cooper. "... Will you sit ?for me for a glass picture - a long one - all black velvet & you against a disinfectant pink? Yours ever, W. N." Incorporating a small sketch of the imagined portrait. Also included in the albums are programmes for Winston Churchill's funeral, an original sketch by Cecil Beaton, 2 Christmas cards from Pansy & Henry [Lamb], a signed Christmas card from Queen Mary, a one-page typed poem signed "Christopher Hassall", autograph letters or notes from Kenneth Clarke, Terence Rattigan, a signed photograph of Ivor Novello, a signed typed poem by John Betjeman (his own version of 'We plough the Fields and Scatter'), and an original pen-and-ink and watercolour portrait of Elizabeth Bowen ("as seen by Modigliani") by Stephen Tennant; with an unrelated album of late 19th-century photographs.
