Title: A Critical Inquiry into Ancient Armour as it existed in Europe, but particularly in England, from the Norman Conquest to the Reign of Charles II, with a glossary of military terms of the Middle Ages Author: Meyrick, Samuel Rush Place: London Publisher: Robert Jennings Date: 1824 Description: 3 volumes. With 9 (of 80) engraved plates; added engraved title-pages; hand-colored initials. (folio) 15½x11, original leather-backed marbled boards. First Edition. Unique, bibliographically significant copy of Meyrick's important study of ancient armor. This copy was evidently used in the preparation of the 1842 second edition, with numerous pencil corrections, notations, check marks, and other emendations. The color plates have been excised, and only 9 uncolored plates remain. Lot Amendments Condition: Bindings worn, Vol. I spine torn; prelims. of Vol. I loose, tear to engraved title; good condition.
