Tender keepsake prepared by a father for his daughter on Valentine’s Day, 1936 consisting of a series of photographs documenting her life in Los Angeles -specifically in the South LA neighborhood. The album contains photos of six different bungalows and apartment buildings (with addresses), presumably where the family had lived, plus five views of the grounds and buildings of St. Mary’s Academy at Clauson & Crenshaw (apparently no longer extant); views of some businesses; views of the LA Fire Department’s training facility (“This is where the Firemen Learn”); and a view of Snugg’s Drugs on the corner of Pico & Plymouth (“I saw it first!! On Pico at Plymouth”). Last leaf with a hand-written dedication: "Sweetheart 2-14-36. This day this to you, with the hope that it would help to keep fresh in your memory the days of your childhood when your sorrows and disappointments were so quickly forgotten in newly found pleasures and amusement. I have with me, always, the memory of the sparkle of your eyes—the smiles on your fact—your laughter. May you know no sorrow, no disappointments. May you live happily and laugh joyously forever and ever. Yours Dad."
