A fine Charles II ebony and gilt-brass mounted Roman striking longcase clock of three month duration Joseph Knibb London. Circa 1675 CASE: hood with shallow domed caddy top surmounted by three replaced gilt-brass flattened ball finials, replaced blind fret above plain columns with gilt-brass caps, rectangular glazed side panels, convex throat mouldings, three raised panels to the rectangular moulded frame door, with further moulded frame to the conforming panelled sides, plain plinth raised on replaced gilt-brass bun feet; case key DIAL: 10¼ in. square brass dial plate with latched feet, replaced winged cherub mask and foliate spandrels, foliate engraving and signed Joseph Knibb London along the lower edge, the replaced Roman chapter ring (formerly skeletonised) engraved with full Arabic minutes and trident half hour markers, finely matted centre, with cut and fettled blued steel hands MOVEMENT: with arched plates joined by six fine ring-turned and latched pillars, secured to the backboard via two replaced brackets, replaced anchor escapement with restored backcock and pendulum suspension bracket incorporating Knibb-type butterfly regulation, restored countwheel for Roman strike on replaced pork pie bell above further replaced small bell; replaced 1¼ seconds brass latched pendulum, replaced brass cased weights, crank key 83 in. (214 cm.) high; 15¾ in. (40 cm.) wide; 8¾ in. (22 cm.) deep
