A fine Chinese pale celadon jade archaistic tripod censer and cover, Qianlong (1736-95), the compressed globular body with unusual stylised phoenix scrolled handles, carved in low relief with a band of taotie masks on a key fret ground with vertical raised notched fins, on three zoomorphic feet headed by taotie masks, the cover pierced and carved in low relief with lotus flowers and scrolls, around a stepped roundel surmounted by an applied dragon's head finial, the stone of good even tone with some white inclusions and a soft polish, 17.7cm across, 12cm high a white jade censer with similar archaistic taotie masks and notched fins sold by Christie's New York, Fine Chinese Furniture Archaic Bronzes and Works of Art sale, 21st September 2004, Lot 107 In light of the changing international market practices for the auctioning of Oriental works of art, Dreweatts advises prospective bidders that we will require registered bidders to provide additional evidence of identity and, at our sole discretion, we may also request financial references that might include the lodging of a security deposit by a bank transfer or debit card prior to the commencement of the sale.
